To provide financial support to non-profit organizations nationwide with a shared vision of empowering active military personnel, veterans, their families, and community.
OUR VISION
Based in San Antonio, Texas, Music 4 Life Blues 4 the Soul was created to honor the life of combat veteran 1SG Will Witten. His enduring love of music and desire to support military members, veterans and their families stand at the foundation of our commitment. Through comprehensive support of music education and collaboration with veteran organizations offering medical therapeutic options, we aspire to support well-being, foster resilience, and build community for those who have served and their families.
WHAT WE DO
Music 4 Life Blues 4 the Soul regularly supports non-profit organizations nationally with financial resources, scholarships, and fund-raising events. Primarily we lean toward non-profits that promote music education and therapeutic options for active military, veterans, and their families. We may also support other non-profit organizations as appropriate. We believe in the significance of music and its extraordinary ability to inspire, heal, and unite us all.
Will Witten Scholarship
The Will Witten Memorial Scholarship honors the life of Will Witten, his love of music, and his desire to support active military members, veterans, and their families through the healing power of music. An avid guitarist and Army veteran, Will understood the benefits of self-expression through music. 1SG Will Witten enlisted in the U.S. Army at the Kansas City MEPS as an enlisted Cavalry Scout in 1984. He completed Combat medic and Licensed Practical Nurse training at Fort Sam Houston, TX and then trained in mountain and winter warfare as a Scout with the 3/17th Cavalry Squadron at Fort Drum, NY. As a Civil Affairs Team Sergeant, 1SG Witten deployed to Kunar Province, Afghanistan in 2002-2003 and deployed again as a Civil Affairs Engineer to the Shkin Province, Afghanistan in 2006. He served as a Senior Enlisted Civil Affairs Advisor to the Commander of the Combined Joint Special Operations Command in Bagram, Afghanistan in 2007. In 2010 he deployed to Iraq and served as the J9 Sergeant Major for U.S. Forces Iraq, Camp Victory. His next assignment was as the 1SG of Headquarters Company, 85th Civil Affairs Brigade, Fort Hood, TX. During this time, he served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Ecuador. 1SG Witten received numerous awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Defense MSM, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, The Army Commendation Medal with 5 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and many more. Will left this world in December 2021. His wife, Kathleen (Kat) and son, Gunner, the sponsors of this scholarship wish to carry on his legacy by providing this opportunity for the San Antonio community through their foundation Music 4 Life Blues 4 the Soul. Gunner proudly serves in the Army Reserve.
About the Founder
Kathiey (Kat) Witten is a multifaceted professional with a deep-seated passion for music, painting, philanthropy, and classic cars. Hailing from South Texas, Kat's journey has been marked by a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. With a background as a third generation Registered Nurse, Kat continues to embody the importance of care and compassion, qualities she brings to her role as the manager of CC Blues Factory, a blues band that she skillfully orchestrates to support noble causes. Through her leadership, the band harnesses the power of music to raise funds for veterans and their families via Music 4 Life Blues 4 the Soul, a foundation she founded in honor of her late husband, Combat Veteran, 1SGT Will Witten, ensuring his legacy continues through initiatives like the Will Witten Memorial scholarship. Beyond her philanthropic endeavors, Kat finds solace and excitement in her passion for muscle cars, particularly her love of classic Mustangs, which reflect her love for adrenaline and timeless style. Kat's life is a symphony of charity, music, and horsepower, leaving an indelible mark wherever she goes. With her son, Gunner, proudly serving in the Army Reserve, Kat's unwavering commitment to serving her community and honoring her late husband's legacy is making her a driving force for positive change in Texas and beyond.
